Thanks for the great summer picnic, Overlook! A good time was had by all, and special congratulations to our door prize winners, who enjoyed treats graciously donated by Atomic Pizza, Eddie’s Flat Iron Pizza, Tilt, Beads for Life and our hosts Lucky Lab Taproom.. thank you!!

Thanks to all who attended and made our gathering a success and welcome to all our new neighbors!

Coming up, we’ve got another special OKNA General meeting on September 18, 7:00-9:00 pm at the Kaiser Town Hall on N Interstate Ave. In addition to some presentations about developments, and ways to help Overlook kids, we’ll be electing the members of the OKNA board for a year’s service. Please attend and let us know what’s important to you in the coming year and how you can help.

5) Food Families for Ockley Green Kids
We are still looking for several more families to support kids at Ockley Green School who don’t have much access to food at home on the weekends. There are about 30 families in need. If we have 10-15 families sign up then each volunteer family will supply 25-30 pieces of fruit/veggies for backpacks on a rotating basis. These kids need the food, and this is a great way to help out your community.

Contact Ginger Edwards at ginger.edws@gmail.com for more details or to sign up and join the 7 neighbors who have volunteered already.

6) Speed Change: Slow Down (now!)
Speeds on the Neighborhood Greenways (aka Bike Boulevards) have been reduced to 20 MPH. Please drive slowly on N Concord and the other Neighborhood Greenways springing up in the area.

8) Free Storytelling, Songs, Games and Fun Playtime (Mondays)

Every Monday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 PM Jerry Cowan (The Storyteller) hosts an hour of fun for children of all ages in the historic Overlook House Community Center at 3839 N. Melrose Drive in North Portland. The cool and spacious ongoing event basement room at the Overlook House comes to life with the sound of playing children and visiting grown ups as the children explore the many toys and activities available to them. When the children are ready for a story the Storyteller entertains them with songs and folklore tales about legendary adventures of forest creatures in a long ago time right here in the Pacific Northwest. It was a time when all forest creatures talked and lived together in peace while competing and playing harmless tricks on each other. Come on out and have some quality fun time with your kids. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

10) Love for Graffiti Removers
We got this note in a message titled North Portland Cares:

For all of you who are constantly doing "battle" with the Taggers and Graffiti folks, Please know that all who make this wonderful place our home, You are appreciated more than words can tell.  It is costly and so frustrating, but time and time again, we walk by or drive by and see tagger or graffiti selfishness and very soon thereafter, you have painted it over.
Thank You so very much!  And for those of you who lend a hand and help those needing to paint, Thank You!  If you just haven’t thought about it, the next time you see our neighbors having to keep their business or building vlean, maybe just stop by and say Thank You and ask them if they could use a hand! That’s the North Portland way.

The Overlook Livability Team is actively seeking new members; we’ll be forwarding the names of those who expressed interest at the picnic, but if you missed that opportunity, write to David at graffiti@OverlookNeighborhood.org to find out more. Clean ups are usually the 1st Sunday of the month.
