North Portland Neighborhood Services Grant fund committee announces 14 Neighborhood grant awards boosting community-building activities in North Portland.

Bulletin boards to improve communication on Hayden Island, a Filipino Film Festival, instruments for the Astor School drill and drum team and a project to remove invasive weeds from the Blue Heron wetlands are several of the volunteer driven projects funded by the 2011 North Portland Neighborhood Services Grant fund.

The grants are awarded annually for promoting partnerships in community-building projects that benefit the North Portland community.  A committee of seven North Portland neighbors considered 24 applications and awarded $20,000.

Administered by North Portland Neighborhood Services, funding for the North Portland Neighborhood Services Grant fund comes from the North Portland Trust Fund, a community fund supported by Portland International Raceway, and the Office of Neighborhood Involvement Small Grants fund program, a city-wide effort to help residents engage in their communities.
