3) Consider Overlook House for Year-end Donations

Looking to make a tax-deductible donation before the end of the year? Consider a contribution to your own neighborhood non-profit, Overlook House, to help support community and children’s events, classes, and neighborhood meetings all year long. Just click on the “DONATE” button at the top of the main web site page (historicoverlookhouse.org) to make your secure, tax-deductible donation through PayPal – all major credit cards are accepted.

4) N/NE Enrollment Balancing Discussion Continues (deadline 12/19)

The PPS rebalancing discussion continues, with a little more time for neighbors and parents to give input on the choices being offered. At stake is the future of our neighborhood school, Beach School, and its Spanish language immersion program.

You now have until December 19 to make comment; please get involved in the conversation. If you feel this is something OKNA should take a position on, please step forward by emailing us at info@OverlookNeighborhood.org

6) Let’s Look Out for Each Other

Lines for Life is a local organization that operates a 24/7 hotline for those facing the challenges of suicide and mental health crises, and their crisis counselors are waiting for your calls.

You can reach these services by calling 1-800-SUICIDE or their new local phone number (503) 9723456.

We can all do our part in getting the word out. With that in mind, I ask that you click on the image linked below, print out the flyer, and post it on the community board at your workplace, church, community center, or other gathering spot to help those who may be in need.

By sharing this flyer at local gathering places or online, you can help make sure Portlanders know that support in the midst of a mental health crisis is just a phone call away. If you’re concerned about yourself or someone you care about, I urge you to take advantage of this vital resource. Suicide is a preventable cause of death, and with all of our help, we can make a difference and prevent these tragedies.

Thank you,
Sam Adams
Portland Mayor

7) Happy Holidays from OKNA

Thank you to all the neighbors who came out to make merry together for the Annual OKNA Holiday Potluck dinner this past Tuesday night. Your OKNA Board is always happy to organize this opportunity to break bread with neighbors and spend some social time outside of meetings.

We especially appreciate the generosity of our hosts, Daybreak Cohousing. If you have not stopped in to see their beautiful facility, you should make a point to do so.

Hearty thanks too, to the following neighbors and businesses who donated prizes for our gift draw:

Alan & Tomoko Delatorre
Atomic Pizza
Blend Coffee Lounge
Blue Buddha Bodywork
Kent & Jill Hoddick
Kenny & Zuke’s Delicatessen
Overlook Veterinary Hospital

The next OKNA Board meeting is on a special night, Tuesday January 8, 2013 at 7:00pm at the Overlook House.

The next OKNA general membership meeting is Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 7:00pm at the Kaiser Town Hall building.

In the meantime, enjoy all the holiday season has to offer!
