1) OKNA’s February general meeting

Come meet your neighbors at the Lucky Labrador Tap Room on Tuesday at the Overlook Neighborhood Association’s February general meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

This month’s meeting is focused on hearing from neighbors what their top concerns are for the neighborhood. We’ll also learn about a proposed development at 5905 N Interstate Ave. See the full agenda.

2) New home for Hazelnut Grove residents passes milestone

The Joint Office of Homeless Services last week announced that the St. Johns Christian Church has signed a lease with Do Good Multnomah, which will manage a tiny-home village alternative shelter program on land owned by the church in St. Johns. The new village will be modeled on the successful Kenton Women’s Village and will be professionally constructed with utilities.

Do Good Multnomah will manage the village and provide wraparound services, including housing placement and case management work. The hope is to open the village by the fourth quarter of 2020.

When the new village opens, residents of Hazelnut Grove will have first opportunity to move there. This is an excellent opportunity for residents to move to safer location with legal standing and services. Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office has said that after the new village opens, the city no longer will allow camping at the current site of Hazelnut Grove.

3) Rules of the road legal clinic

When do drivers have to yield to pedestrians? What rights and responsibilities do bicycle riders have on Portland’s streets? These and other questions will be answered on Feb. 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Historic Kenton Firehouse (5105 N Brandon Ave.) when The Street Trust hosts free legal clinic on Rules of the Road.

Learn everything you need to know about the rules of walking and biking. Attendees will have a chance to chat with experienced lawyers about traffic laws, insurance and what to do if you’re in a crash. This free event is presented in partnership with the law firm of Thomas, Coon, Newton & Frost.

4) I-5 ramp closures continue

The Oregon Department of Transportation continues to do work in and around Overlook. This week, the Alberta Street on-ramp to I-5 northbound and the I-5 off-ramp to Alberta will shut down Monday to Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

These closures are part of a project to install advisory speed signs and traveler information signs in seven locations along I-5 between Marine Drive and I-405 in North Portland. Work will be complete in summer 2020.
