Overlook Neighborhood Update (Feb. 24)

1) Adidas withdraws noise variance application

2) The Easter Bunny is coming to Overlook

3) The Portland Expo Center is hiring

1) Adidas withdraws noise variance application

On Tuesday, the Overlook Neighborhood Association heard from neighbors concerned about adidas’ application to expand its construction work hours on weekends to as early as 5:30 a.m. on Saturdays and on Sundays, when work normally isn’t allowed, for more than a month. The board voted unanimously to oppose the changes and submitted a strongly worded letter to the city’s noise office that night. The chair also reached out to adidas directly.

Adidas withdrew its application on Wednesday and will do the necessary work in standard work hours. This was  great win for the neighborhood and the commonsense view that people deserve a chance to sleep in on the weekends and have Sundays off from construction work across the street. Thanks to everyone who came out to the meeting.

2) The Easter Bunny is coming to Overlook

Mark your calendar now for the Easter Bunny’s visit to Overlook House. On Saturday, April 20, the annual Egg Hunt will begin at 10:30 a.m. sharp. Kids will discover hundreds of eggs filled with treats and lots of other little toys spread on the back lawn of Overlook House. Some lucky kids will even find golden eggs with a special prize inside. Please bring a basket if you have one.

The fun happens rain or shine. Friends of Overlook House present the hunt free of charge for neighborhood children.

(Note: The Overlook Views newsletter printed an incorrect date for this event based on a miscommunication. The hunt is on Saturday, April 20.)

3) The Portland Expo Center is hiring

Are you or someone you know looking for a job? The Portland Expo Center, which is in North Portland, will hold an employment event on Wednesday, 11-3. Hiring managers will be onsite to conduct interviews for open service industry positions, including event custodians, concession stand workers, restaurant cooks, dishwashers and parking attendants.
