1) Overlook holiday events

The holiday season is in full swing and the Overlook Neighborhood will be celebrating in style. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for two upcoming events:

Santa is coming the Overlook House (3839 N Melrose Dr.) on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m.

The Overlook Neighborhood Association annual holiday party is on Friday, Dec. 7, 6-8 p.m. at Daybreak Commons (2525 N Killingsworth St.)

2) REACH Adopt-A-Neighbor Program

The 8th annual REACH Adopt-A-Neighbor Program is underway. Overlook residents have demonstrated strong support for this program the past seven years. REACH Resident Services hope neighbors will step up again in 2018. Families like those living at Patton Park Apartments (5272 N. Interstate) are often left out of gift giving and receiving as they focus on meeting basic needs.

Neighbors’ donations of a new toy, clothing item or basic necessity (food, diapers, bus tickets), a sense of community and hope is restored. Patton Park Apartments is home to more than 100 residents living below median income.

3) Highway ramp closures

The Oregon Department of Transportation will continue night and weekend closures of the ramps connecting I-5 and I-81.

• The ramp from I-5 southbound to I-84 eastbound will be closed nights and around-the-clock for the weekend beginning Nov. 26 through the morning of Dec. 3.
• The ramp from I-84 westbound to I-5 southbound will be closed nights and around-the-clock weekends Nov. 27 through Dec. 12.
• The ramp from I-84 westbound to I-5 northbound will be closed nights and around-the-clock weekends beginning Dec. 12.

Travelers are advised to use detours or public transit and avoid driving in the area if possible during the closures. Weekday nighttime closures are 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. and weekend closures are Friday night at 10 p.m. through Monday morning at 5 a.m. The ramps will be completely closed during these times for continued maintenance work.
