1) BikeTown expanding further into Overlook
Portland’s bicycle sharing program is looking to expand, and Overlook will see new service area. The Portland Bureau of Transportation proposes pushing the current BikeTown service boundary out to N Overlook Boulevard and N Gay Avenue. It will also open a satellite service area on Swan Island. Additional bikes will be available along N Killingsworth. The corral at N Interstate and N Willamette, which has the lowest ridership of all 100 stations citywide, will be removed.
PBOT is taking comment on the proposals. Give your feedback and learn more on their website. If you take the survey, consider urging PBOT to extend the zone to cover all of Overlook (to Greeley).
2) Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) information fair (May 22)
ADUs – The acronym that Portlanders are talking about now that city and county projects involving these small homes are in the works. Learn more about accessory dwelling units at a North Portland information fair. Topics include:
- What is and ADU?
- How do you plan one?
- How do you finance one?
- Why live in one?
- Can it help address affordability? Or aging in place?
- Why build one?
- Does it help or harm neighborhood character?

3) Free soccer program for children with special needs
Overlook-based Saints Soccer Academy and the Holy Redeemer Soccer Club are hosting a free soccer program for children with special needs in the month of May. TOPSoccer, or The Outreach Program for soccer, is for any child 5 years and older for whom a typical soccer recreational program is not the right support or structure. Children may have varied physical, mental or social-emotional special needs, and the program is designed to meet these individual needs. Register a TOPSoccer player for free or volunteer online.
4) Mayor seeks input on Portland’s next police chief
Mayor Ted Wheeler is looking for a new police chief, and he is asking Portlanders for input on qualifications they want to see in the new chief. Take the survey online by June 12.
5) Q&A with Rep. Tawna Sanchez
State Rep. Tawna Sanchez, whose district includes the southern half of Overlook, will hold a public Q&A session on Saturday, May 20. This constituent coffee hour will be sponsored by the Native Nations Club of ASPCC – Cascades. It will be a time to discuss the ongoing legislative session.
