1) OKNA Board meeting (Dec. 6)

2) Adidas expanding Portland operations

adidasThe Portland Business Journal reports that Adidas will move 150 jobs from Boston to Portland. The company’s North American headquarters is in Overlook. From the news report:

Adidas is moving 150 back-office jobs from Boston to Portland as it looks to streamline operations and build on its North American momentum. … In addition to the jobs moving to Portland, Adidas is on its biggest local hiring spree in history, with plans to add 10 percent to its Portland workforce this year. Last year it acquired an adjacent building to expand its campus and house new workers.


3) Hazelnut Grove update

Mayor Charlie Hales’ office pledged to help the Hazelnut Grove homeless camp relocate by the end of October. That has not happened. He has one month remaining in his term to make good. If not that, at a minimum OKNA asks that the mayor’s office reconvene negotiations between Hazelnut Grove, the Overlook Neighborhood and City Hall to develop a compromise, temporary permit for the camp.

Santa Visits Overlook House
Sunday, Dec. 4, 11-1:30
Overlook House (3839 N Melrose Dr.)

On Sunday, Dec. 4, Friends of Overlook House will host a visit from the Jolly Old Elf himself. Santa Clause will arrive on a fire truck at 11 a.m., and the event will continue until 1:30 p.m. Have your picture taken with Santa, get your face painted and enjoy the entertainment of Red Yarn, which will perform at 11:30, noon and 12:30.

OKNA Holiday Party

Come celebrate the Solstice, Hanukah, Christmas, Kwanza or whatever else fills your heart with cheer this time of year. Join your Overlook neighbors at our annual Holiday Potluck Party. Please bring a dish to share if you are able.

Overlook NET Holiday Party
Monday, Dec. 12, 6-8 p.m.
New American (2103 N. Killingsworth St.)

The Overlook Neighborhood Emergency Team’s holiday party will take place on Dec. 12 at New American restaurant 6-8 p.m. NET works to ensure that our neighborhood is prepared for when disaster strikes. Their annual party is for all residents to unwind and take your minds off of earthquakes and floods for an evening. A few lucky attendees will win door prizes.

On a sadder note, New American will close its doors on Dec. 18, so join us for one of the final chances to say goodbye to the great folks who have been so wonderful to the neighborhood.
