3) Broadway Bridge to close (Oct. 11-27)
The Broadway Bridge will be closed to motor vehicles from 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 11 until the evening of Tuesday, October 27 to allow the bridge painting contractor to install scaffolding for the final span that will be painted.
Bridge sidewalks will remain open during the closure, but streetcars, buses and other motor vehicles will not be able to use the bridge to ensure public safety. The closure will not impact river traffic.
During the closure the contractor will erect metal scaffolding above traffic lanes at the east end of the bridge and insulate the streetcar electrical system that passes near the scaffolding.
The bridge closure will avoid the need for multiple bridge closures in the final months of 2015. Next year several weekend closures will be needed to allow the contractor to remove insulation and scaffolding over traffic lanes. The project is on schedule to be finished at the end of March.
4) Southbound I-5 to close from Fremont Bridge to Marquam Bridge (nights Oct. 10-18)
Southbound Interstate 5 will be closed for eight nights starting Saturday between the Marquam and Fremont bridges for ODOT’s ongoing I-5 paving and sign replacement project.
The southbound night closures will begin Saturday Oct. 10 and continue every night until early Sunday Oct. 18.
The closures will begin at 10 p.m. each night with all lanes open again by 5 a.m. weekdays and by 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Each night, the first lanes will close at 8 p.m. on-ramps will close at 9 p.m. with all I-5 lanes closed at 10 p.m.
During the closures:
- The ramp from southbound I-5 to eastbound Interstate 84 will be closed.
- The ramp from westbound I-84 to southbound I-5 will be open.
- The North Greeley Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed.
The I-5 Sign Replacement and Paving Project is replacing more than 300 green freeway signs from Southwest Corbett Avenue to North Lombard Street and repaving approximately seven miles of I-5 between Southwest Capitol Highway and the Marquam Bridge.
