2) Be a Bizarre Vendor (3/15)

The deadline is now to join your fellow artists and artisans at the annual St. Johns Bizarre on Saturday, May 10, 2014!  Called the "best street fair of the season" in Willamette Week, the open-air craft fair features 75 local vendors selling unique, quality goods to the several thousands of visitors that come for shopping (the day before Mother’s Day!) and free family entertainment from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown St. Johns. The vendor application is now available online at: http://stjohnsbizarre.com/vendors/. Get your application in before the March 15th deadline and join the fun!  This is a juried fair, ensuring quality product and preference given to local vendors. Acceptance notifications will go out April 1st.

Local community groups and food vendors are also encouraged to submit applications! Visit our website for more details (same address as above).

3) The Overlook House is Hiring (3/18)

The Overlook House is seeking two additional staff members to support
events at the house. One position would be more on-call, the other would have more regular hours of approx 30 hrs/mo during the summer. Primary duty is supporting wedding and party events including opening, closing, answering phone inquiries, and minor clerical duties. Qualifications include good communications skills, and the ability to promote a successful event in the context of a residential neighborhood.  Customer service experience a plus.

5) Urban Bee Habitat Workshop (3/19)

Join Sustainable Overlook members for an event hosted by the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods and learn how your garden can help both native bees and honey bees. It’s easy to grow pollinator-friendly plants and even more fun to join with your neighbors to learn about bees and take action together. Panel includes experts from the Xerces society, Portland Urban Beekeepers, Bee-Friendly Sabin and Glen Anderson host of The Dirtbag, a radio show on organic gardening. Refreshments and conversation starts at 6 pm.

6) Arbor Lodge Urban Farm Work Party (3/14 & 3/21)

CSA Shares Available: We hope to start planting soon and we’ll have produce to share in May. Shares are limited – Contact us now to reserve yours! $525 a share, we are limiting the number sold to ensure you receive an abundance of produce. Find a copy of the CSA contract on the fence of ALUF. The farm and your pick-up location is 6917 N Interstate Ave.

Vocoform is a non-profit organization that helps young adults 18-25 identify and pursue their vocations through a holistic approach of skill development, life coaching and enterprise operation/ownership. Arbor Lodge Urban Farm (ALUF) is an Enterprise Training Lab, under the Vocoform umbrella. At ALUF we will use internships and apprenticeships to teach the operational and skill-based side of an urban farm. We wish to provide you with fresh, local, seasonal food and you the member will be responsible to pick up a collection of produce each week.

Our CSA runs for approximately 30 weeks, from May to late November. You will generally receive two grocery bags of produce, with 3 bags during peak season. However, this is our first year of production and it is an estimate. We are limiting the number of CSA shares sold to ensure you receive ample product.

The North Portland Public Safety Action Committee will not meet this month. The next PSAC meeting will be on Wednesday, April 23rd at 7pm at the Historic Kenton Firehouse.
